Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has left Lassana Diarra out of his squad to travel to the United States for pre-season fixtures.
The 26-year-old midfielder struggled to hold down a regular first team place last season, and with the summer signing of Nuri Sahin from Borussia Dortmund, competition for places in Los Blancos starting XI is going to be even more intense in 2010/11.
The France international signed for the Santiago Bernabeu club for £20 million from Portsmouth in January 2009, but it believed that a fee of around £10 million would be needed for Madrid to accept. Manchester United and Tottenham have been linked with a move for the Paris born battler.
Sergio Canales, Fernando Gago, Pedro Leon and Royston Drenthe have all been omitted from the travelling squad also, and are now likely to leave the Spanish giants in the transfer window.
