Lawro expects Spurs to end Everton’s unbeaten run

Tottenham Hotspur are sitting pretty in second-spot in the Premier League but they’ve endured a disappointing spell, having followed-up their early exit from the Champions League with a premature departure from the Europa League.

Domestically though, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are going strong and have their placed booked in the FA Cup quarter-finals next weekend. However, they face a stern test this weekend against an Everton side enjoying fine form.

Ronald Koeman’s side are currently on a nine game unbeaten run in the Premier League and have their own European aspirations to aim for, with a top-seven spot required to land Goodison Park Europa League football- but the Toffees could still finish above rivals Liverpool.

However, former Liverpool man Mark Lawrenson doesn’t think things will go their way this weekend and expects Spurs to end their winning run. Making his predictions for the BBC, he said:

“Tottenham made a disappointing exit from the Europa League but they never seem to be off the boil for very long, as they showed with their 4-0 win over Stoke. Generally Spurs are very good defensively and, at the other end, they just ripped the Potters apart last week – Harry Kane’s hat-trick was top drawer.”

“I know Everton are nine games unbeaten in the league, but going to White Hart Lane and continuing that run is a huge ask. I have seen that Toffees boss Ronald Koeman has been linked with the Barcelona job next season but surely Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will also be interesting Barca?”

“It will be interesting to see what happens there but I think both managers enjoy being in the Premier League and they both also know they are building something at the moment.”

Defeat for Everton could see West Brom pull just one point behind the Toffees, whilst Spurs could to fourth if other results go against them.
