Southampton favourite Matt Le Tissier has raged at the officials after a 'disgusting' decision made during the EFL Cup final at Wembley, which heavily influenced the outcome of the match as Manchester United won 3-2.

Manolo Gabbiadini was the first to have the ball in the net at Wembley but incorrectly saw his goal chalked-off for offside and, though the Italian later scored a brace, the decision allowed Manchester United to push into a two-goal lead in the first-half.

Southampton did force themselves back into the match, with Gabbiadini's strikes either side of half-time drawing the game level, but the dramatic tie was overshadowing by another poor decision from the officials- which seem to have plagued English football this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, former Saints man Le Tissier was clearly furious with the decision he dubbed as 'disgusting'.

"If Southampton had scored the first goal it would have put a whole new complexion on this game. At this level, the assistant has to get the decision right. The linesman cannot even see Gabbiadini (because he's behind Chris Smalling, onside) so how can he flag him offside?"

"What is he thinking? How can he think Bertrand tapped the ball in? This is a cup final, he has to get these decisions right and that decision was disgusting."

The outcome will surely add to the calls for video technology to be added into English football further, following the successful addition of goal-line technology, but that will be no consolation to Southampton.
