The Premier League has asked for clarification after former Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston was declared bankrupt.
Oyston was officially declared bankrupt on the same day last month that he also resigned as chairman and director of the top-flight newcomers.
The 43-year-old's resignation after 11 years with the club came as a surprise, although he did agree to stay on as chief executive until a replacement could be found.
However, league rules prevent anyone made bankrupt from holding the position of chairman or director and Oyston's role is now being probed.
"We were aware of the proceedings," confirmed a Premier League spokesperson.
"It's something we will be speaking to Blackpool Football Club about to ascertain all the details."
