Leeds United look to keep hold of starlet

7. Sam Byram, Leeds United v Oxford United, Round 2Leeds United boss Brian McDermott is confident that youngster Sam Byram will turn down offers from the Premier League to stay put.

The 19-year-old had a brilliant season for the Whites, establishing himself as his side’s regular right-back and his progress hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Manchester City, West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City all linked with him.

However, Byram himself has said that he wants to remain at Elland Road and McDermott says he will do all he can to keep the starlet.

“Sam wants to be here next season and the club want him to be here next season. I’m absolutely certain of that,” he said.

“If someone does try to push him in a different direction then it won’t be the player or the club who are doing the pushing. I’m not concerned about it.

“For me his development as a player will be so much better and quicker through regular football, and the games he’s had at Leeds have done him the power of good.”
