Leicester close to 17-goal striker

Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez is closing in on a move to Leicester City, according to local paper The Leicester Mercury.

The paper claims reports in Spanish press say that after scoring 17 goals in La Liga, and creating a fellow 10 assists, the forward is nearing a £12.5million switch to the Premier League champions.

The 27-year-old has been linked with a host of teams across the summer, including the Foxes for the majority of the transfer window. And despite adding attacking threat Ahmed Musa for a club record transfer, Claudio Ranieri hasn’t finished building a team to defend their crown.

The Foxes narrowly lost 2-1 in the FA Community Shield last week, with striker Jamie Vardy scoring after signing a new deal to stay at the King Power Stadium earlier in the summer. Vardy snubbed a move to Arsenal to stay with Ranieri, and the star forward could have a new strike partner very soon.

It was the first season where Lucas scored double figures in the league, after a year that saw him net against Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
