Leicester City are preparing a £10 million move for Chinese defender Zhang Linpeng according to The Sun in a bid to bolster their defensive ranks this summer.
The Foxes are set to play Champions League football next term after their momentous title win and as such Claudio Ranieri is expected to bolster his squad over the course of the summer.
Linpeng is likened to Real Madrid and Spain star Sergio Ramos for his ability to bring the ball out of defence and currently plays for Chinese powerhouses Guanzhou Evergrande.
The report suggests that the Foxes are keen to add an able defender to their contingent this summer and would also welcome the added exposure in a growing Chinese market from a revenue perspective.
The 27-year-old has been capped 49 times by his country and was being touted with a move to Chelsea 12 months ago.
Linpeng has spoken out about Leicester’s reported interest, stating that he was flattered by Chelsea’s attention last summer and would be open to a move to the King Power Stadium outfit.
“I’d love to play in the Premier League for such a prestigious club,” The Sun quote the China international as saying.
“I’ve had recognition from Chelsea, which was a proud moment for me, and of course I’d listen to a proposal from the champions.”
