The current Premier League leaders take on Harry Redknapp’s men on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium, and are currently five points ahead of the third-placed side.
Despite Spurs’ strong form this season, the England international has written off the North London club’s chances of winning the title.
“No disrespect to Spurs but we see Man United as our main rivals, because they’re second in the league,” he told Mirror Football.
“We need to focus on the next team behind us, and at this moment in time that’s United.
“As much as the points [on Sunday] are vital to create a gap between us and Spurs, it’s more important to pull away from Man United.
“Maybe the neutrals want Spurs to win the title rather than us or United, but we’re not getting involved in any of that. We’re just here to do a job and hopefully win the league,” he stated.
City beat a hapless Tottenham 5-1 at White Hart Lane at the start of the season, but Lescott feels that result will have no bearing on the weekend’s fixture.
“It seems ages ago that we won 5-1 there. We don’t need to look back on that performance, we’re confident anyway.
“Spurs are playing well, but we know we’ve done well this season, especially at home. They will come with a game-plan and we know it’ll be a tough test,” he concluded.
