Limp Latics stun Martinez

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez wonders whether his side is made up of too many individuals that cannot play as a team after watching them slump to a 5-0 defeat against a rampant Manchester United side at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

The Latics were beaten by the same scoreline by United at the DW Stadium earlier in the campaign and have also been thrashed 9-1 by Tottenham and 4-0 by both Portsmouth and Arsenal.

The Spaniard said after his team's latest capitulation:"We never gave United a game. We were extremely, extremely disappointing in all the things we have to do to be a team.

"You come to places like Old Trafford and it's not good enough to be good – you have to be perfect and be solid and earn the right to express yourself and try to win the football game.

"Today we started everything the other way round and we played like individuals and never looked like a team and when you do that you get heavily punished.

"It has happened too many times this season and it's unacceptable and we will have to correct it."
