Liverpool’s potential £30million move for Napoli ace Gonzalo Higuain could see Arsenal fail to land Porto star Jackson Martinez, Express reports.
Higuain is currently unhappy with Napoli’s early season performances so far, which has seen the Serie A club knocked out of the Champions League qualifying stages as well as only collecting seven points out of the possible 15 in the league.
The situation in Naples has therefore put manager Rafael Benitez under increased pressure and if the Spanish boss was to be sacked, then Higuain could also depart the Stadio San Paolo.
Benitez’s former club Liverpool have become favourites to sign the Argentine striker, as Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring in Higuain to replace the goalscoring exploits of now Barcelona star Luis Suarez.
Liverpool purchased Mario Balotelli in a £16million deal from AC Milan during the summer but the Italian is yet to find the form capable of pushing his side to compete for the title.
And according to sources in Italy, Napoli are already looking at Porto hitman Jackson Martinez to replace Higuain if he was to depart.
This would come as a big blow to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who was monitoring the Colombian striker despite the summer arrival of Danny Welbeck from Manchester United.
Tottenham have also been in the hunt for Martinez, with Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor so far disappointing early in the campaign.
