Liverpool star Mario Balotelli is already on the chopping block as Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher, Jamie Redknapp, and Graeme Souness are all advising manager Brendan Rodgers to sell the striker, Express reports.
Balotelli only just arrived from AC Milan for £16million during the summer transfer window, but after his disappointing performance against Real Madrid on Wednesday night the Italian is expected to be offloaded sooner rather than later.
The 24-year-old was purchased to replace Luis Suarez, who left to Barcelona, however Liverpool legends Carragher, Redknapp, and Souness believes the former Manchester City star has failed to fill the Uruguayan’s boots.
“I’ll be surprised to see him here next season,” Carragher said.
“They left it too late to bring in players. They should have bought just two or three big names.
“Balotelli was just a panic signing. These types of players are continually moved on for a reason. By far their worst player.”
Redknapp added: “How Rodgers thought he could turn a player around that Mourinho and Mancini washed their hands of, I do not know.
“It doesn’t make any sense that he bought him.”
Balotelli was also seen swapping shirts with Real’s Pepe at half-time, a behaviour frowned upon by the Anfield faithful.
Souness concluded: “There’s every chance they’ve lost him [when he didn’t return to the bench].
“There could be a rift there already.”
Liverpool only have 3 points in the Champions League group stages, with the only win coming in a 2-1 win over Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets.
