Liverpool have been alerted by speculation that Thiago Motta’s transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Atletico Madrid has broken down, according to Marca, as reported by the Metro.
The 32-year-old was eyed as one of the possible candidates to help fill the midfield void for manager Brendan Rodgers following the departure of Steven Gerrard at the end of the previous campaign.
He was believed to be on the verge of completing a move to the La Liga giants, but with negotiations breaking down, the Reds could now make a move in their efforts to reinforce their midfield.
Lucas Leiva is also being linked with an exit this summer as Rodgers will be boosted by the fact that PSG are ready to part ways with Motta after his arrival from Inter Milan back in 2012.
Apart from the Italy international, the Anfield club are also keeping an eye on Real Madrid star Asier Illarramendi who is being tipped to leave the Bernabeu during the current window.
