Liverpool and Arsenal have been placed on red alert after Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema privately admitted he could leave the Bernabeu, according to the Daily Star.
Both clubs have been linked with a move for the French striker in the past, and the Reds saw what he is capable of at close quarters recently, with the former Lyon man scoring three goals over two Champions League games against Brendan Rodgers side.
Benzema fired 26 goals last season as Real Madrid claimed a tenth European Cup, and has 11 to his name so far this season.
But the 26-year-old is still unsure as to whether Madrid see him as their long term option, and was reportedly unhappy with the way in which president Florentino Perez pursued Luis Suarez in the summer.
Real Madrid could yet add another centre forward in January, with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero a reported target.
Liverpool are desperate to plug the gap left by Luis Suarez, with summer signing Mario Balotelli yet to open his Premier League account.
Arsene Wenger meanwhile is under pressure to add more goals to an attack that has been carried by Alexis Sanchez this season, with the Gunners currently trailing league leaders Chelsea by 12 points.
