Liverpool and Man United boosted as top target reluctant to extend contract

Liverpool and Manchester United have been boosted in their chase for Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan, with the midfielder reluctant to sign a new contract, according to reports from Bild.

Gundogan has been heavily linked with a move to the English top flight the past few seasons, but on every occasion the German international decided to remain with the Westfalenstadion club.

However, with just over a year remaining on his current contract, the BVB could decide to sell him this summer if he does not agree to an extension to avoid losing him for free in the future.

This will come as a big boost to the Reds and United, with both keen on the 25-year-old ace.

Dortmund are also already searching for a replacement, with Borussia Monchengladbach’s Mahmoud Dahoud high on their transfer list.

Gundogan has made 32 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and supplying an additional six assists.
