Liverpool boss believed Philippe Coutinho could mark his return from injury during the upcoming League Cup quarter-final clash against Southampton, Express reports.
The 23-year-old was unable to feature this past weekend as he saw his side overcome Swansea City 1-0 to mark manager Jurgen Klopp’s first home league win since his appointment.
Despite being unable to deploy the Brazil international, the former Borussia Dortmund boss was able to play both Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge as the pair marked their return from injury.
Klopp has now come out to reveal that Coutinho is now in line to feature in his team’s trip to face the Saints on Wednesday after deciding to let his star attacker rest at the weekend.
“Philippe had a very intensive session yesterday, but we decided two or three days ago that we didn’t want to risk [him] for this game,” said Klopp.
“Now I think he’s fit. I saw him in the dressing room and he looks good. I’ll have to talk with him tomorrow – I think he’s ready for Southampton.”
The Reds are now closing in on the top four following their latest victory as they are now sixth on the Premier League table and trailing leaders Manchester City by only six points.
