Liverpool backed to sign Mario Gotze’s Bayern team-mate

Liverpool are being back to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Pierre Hojbjerg by Bundesliga expert Lee Price.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for World Cup winning playmaker Mario Gotze this summer, in a move that would reunite the superstar with former boss Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

However, the ex-Borussia Dortmund schemer is thought to want to stay in Bavaria and fight for a place in the Bayern team, with Carlo Ancelotti coming to the Allianz Arena this summer.

Hojbjerg has no such ambitions, with the skilful Danish midfielder openly admitting that it is his time to leave Bayern in a bid to play more regularly elsewhere.

With Klopp expected to do a lot of his recruitment from the Bundesliga and already having signed Loris Karius and Joel Matip from the German top flight, the Scandinavian midfield general is a player that the Reds boss knows well.

Price has stated that a move to Anfield would make sense for Hojgjerg and has backed Liverpool to sign the Dane this summer.

“There’s a strong feeling that Klopp has missed out on Mario Gotze,” he told The Daily Star.

“The move was always an ambitious one but now it’s collapsed. Still, Klopp has kept a close eye on the Bundesliga since he left and has eyed up new targets.

“Hojbjerg announced that he will leave Bayern this summer and he would relish the opportunity to be developed by Klopp.

“He knows he isn’t ready to play in the Champions League just yet, which is why Liverpool is the perfect option.

“Hojbjerg is a real talent, a class act in midfield with bags of potential. He’s just the type of player Klopp likes.”
