Liverpool have opened negotiations to sign Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels ahead of Manchester United, according to reports from the Metro.
Hummels was heavily linked with a move away from the Westfalenstadion since the summer, with Man United and Arsenal both keen on his signature.
However, the transfer saga ended with the Germany international staying with the BVB, but may now consider a move to Liverpool with former boss Jurgen Klopp now at the Anfield helm.
According to Italian source Itasportpress, the Reds have begun talks with Dortmund in order to discuss a potential deal for the 26-year-old.
It is claimed that Hummels is unhappy with his new manager Thomas Tuchel, despite the gaffer guiding Dortmund to second on the Bundesliga table only behind Bayern Munich.
This is set to alert Man United, who have struggled to find an adequate centre-back partner for star defender Chris Smalling in their back line.
