Liverpool boss blasts Everton ace

Kevin Mirallas (Everton)

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has slammed Everton striker Kevin Mirallas after strikers ‘nasty’ challenge on Luis Suarez in the Merseyside derby yesterday, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

Suarez was down for four minutes after Mirallas caught the Uruguyan with a lunge in the first half of the fiery and entertaining lunch time game that saw the Reds snatch a last gasp draw at Goodison Park.

Mirallas was booked for the challenge but the replays show it could have been worse for the Belgian international, with Suarez exposing stud marks on his knee shortly after.

The Merseyside derby has a history of red cards but referee Phil Dowd decided Mirallas did not deserve one, much to the dismay of Rodgers.

“I thought Mirallas should have been sent off,” said Rodgers.

“It would have been interesting to see what the referee would have done if it had been Luis making that kind of challenge.

“That was a really bad challenge. If you look at it in slow motion, you see Mirallas catches Luis on the back of his knee.

“That can end your career. Jumping in like that was awful. It was a nasty challenge.”
