Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has come out to confirm that Inter Milan target Lucas will not leave in this month as he believes the midfielder can still help his side achieve a top four finish, Express reports.
The 28-year-old was linked with a switch to the Serie A in recent weeks after Roberto Mancini is said to be targeting the services of the Brazilian international.
However, Rodgers has ruled out a January switch for Lucas, but also admitted that he could leave in the summer depending on the situation of the squad.
“I have spoken to Lucas, but we have had nothing from them [Inter],” he said. “He’s just enjoying playing and he’s playing very well.
“No, he is not one that we would want to lose in January. Of course at the end of the season everything is looked at again, but the team is in a good momentum.
“We are starting to find our feet and players are starting to adapt and work really well so I don’t need to disrupt them.”
The midfielder started 10 Premier League matches this season and shares the same position as club skipper Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson, and Joe Allen, all of whom are the usual picks in contention for a place in the middle of the park.
With the Reds boss still shifting around his formation in order to find the perfect fit, Lucas will continue to have the opportunity to prove his wroth in the second half of the competition.
