Liverpool boss jumps to defence of Luis Suarez

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has once again had to defend striker Luis Suarez after he was accused of diving in the Reds’ home draw with Aston Villa yesterday, as reported by talkSPORT.

Suarez won a penalty to get the Anfield club back in the game after they went 2-0 down at home to struggling Villa.

After collecting a perfect pass from Steven Gerrard, Suarez rounded ‘keeper Brad Guzan only to go down after minimal contact with the ball running out of play.

Suarez is never far from controversy and Rodgers has had to continuously defend his start man who went a rare game without a goal on Saturday.

The Liverpool boss believes every striker would have gone down under the challenge from Guzan and that Suarez is picked on by the media.

“It was a great ball from Steven Gerrard, Luis has taken a wonderful touch and I think he did what any striker would do,” said the Reds boss.

“He made that extra touch and the keeper has made contact.

“Sure, you’ve seen heavier contacts but it’s enough when you’re going at that speed to be taken down.”
