Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers revealed that Mario Balotelli can still remain at the club if he can prove his worth next season, according to reports from the Express.
The 24-year-old struggled to find the back of the net throughout the previous campaign, managing to net only four goals from a total of 28 appearances.
There has been speculation that the striker is set to leave Anfield following the club’s agreement to sign Aston Villa star Christian Benteke.
When Rodgers was asked about the future of Balotelli, he admitted that it will all depend on his ability to perform when given the chance.
“I’m not sure, that will entirely be up to Mario,” he said.
“He is working hard to get fit and we will see when the season begins.”
He was recently linked with a loan return to Inter Milan, but the Italian outfits rejected an offer from the Reds due to their demands to see his wages paid in full.
The Italy international is likely to find himself further down the pecking order following the arrival of Danny Ings, return of Divock Origi from a loan spell, as well as the imminent arrival of Benteke.
