Liverpool are confident they will be able to sign Manchester City star James Milner when his contract expires this summer, according to reports from ESPN.
With Milner’s Man City contract terminating at the end of the season, the club have recently been in negotiations to extend his current deal.
But despite manager Manuel Pellegrini previously stating that he expects an agreement, the 29-year-old has not penned down a new contract due to the belief he can find regular first-team football away from the Etihad.
The Reds have become the favourites to land the England international’s signature, and will be able to snap him up on a free transfer come May.
Liverpool hope that buying Milner can ease the departure of club captain Steven Gerrard, who is set to join MLS side LA Galaxy in the summer.
The Merseyside club may have to move quick to discuss a pre-contract agreement with the former Aston Villa ace, with Arsenal, Inter Milan, and Napoli keen on his services.
