Liverpool have been dealt a transfer blow after Roberto Martinez insisted Hugo Rodallega won’t be leaving Wigan The Mirror reports
Reds manager Kenny Dalglish has been considering a last-minute raid for the Colombian hit man who has been one the Latics most consistent performers over the last few years.
The 26-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and refused to sign an extension meaning he can leave for nothing next summer.
Despite this Martinez stated he won’t be leaving the DW Stadium before the transfer deadline as there isn’t ample time to find a replacement.
The Wigan boss said: “We would not consider anything. You can’t replace players at this stage of the season.
“If a player is moving for big money they have to go earlier in the summer.
“We would not be in a position to replace him now. It is not possible.”
Martinez’s refusal to sell indicates that Wigan are likely to sell Rodallega in the January transfer window instead of losing him on a free transfer next year.
Liverpool could wait until then to sign the striker although Dalglish does have other targets in mind with Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy one of those.
