The youngster was left out of the Reds’ squad to face Huddersfield on Wednesday as part of the club’s preseason preparations, as he debated a switch to Turf Moor for the upcoming season.
Manager Jurgen Klopp sees an Anfield future for Flanagan, and rewarded him with a new deal back in the spring to ensure he stayed at the club. But the German believes that there won’t be much first team action for him next season, and feels the 23-year-old needs a full campaign in the Premier League on loan.
Flanagan has had a horrible spell with injuries over the last few seasons, but has been involved in every training session so far this preseason.
But the defender could join Burnley, with Nathaniel Clyne having a stronghold on the right-back position at Anfield.
Sean Dyche is still preparing his squad for their new season back in the Premier League, looking to ensure survival next May.
