Brendan Rodgers wants Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke to spearhead his side’s push to return to the Champions League again, that is according to reports in the Metro.
After an impressive debut season, the Belgium international struggled to replicate his form at the start of the current campaign, however, since Tim Sherwood took over from Paul Lambert a few weeks back, the striker has rediscovered his goalscoring form.
Benteke now has nine goals in his last eight games for the Villains and is seen as the man to finally replace Luis Suarez’s goals on Merseyside.
In order to sweeten any potential deal with Villa, Rodgers is willing to throw in Rickie Lambert despite the former Southampton man only joining the Reds in the summer – Lambert has only managed three goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season.
Despite reaching the FA Cup Final, relegation is still a possibility for Villa and it remains to be seen whether Benteke will stick around in the Championship.
