Liverpool join Arsenal in race for out-of-contract World Cup winner

Liverpool are ready to make a move for Arsenal target Sami Khedira, with the Real Madrid star unlikely to extend his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, according to reports from the Metro.

The 27-year-old is being seen as a possible replacement to Steven Gerrard, who is set to end his Anfield career by completing a move to LA Galaxy in the summer.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has been linked with a host of midfield names throughout the season, and may finally decide to sign the German anchorman given that he will be available on a free transfer.

The Reds have also been monitoring the likes of Roma’s Miralem Pjanic, Madrid’s Isco, and also West Ham United’s Alex Song.

Khedira is believed to have rejected talks of a possible contract extension, due to his inability to hold down a regular first team role.

The former VfB Stuttgart star has only been given three La Liga starts so far, while his plea for regular football has already attracted the attentions from clubs like the Gunners, Chelsea, and more recently Schalke 04.
