Liverpool have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Manchester City ace James Milner, who will be available for free this summer, Express reports.
The England international is having trouble finalizing a contract extension with City, opening the door to the Reds and the Gunners to move for the midfielder.
However the Premier League champions are confident the club and Milner will come to an agreement.
The 28-year-old delayed signing a contract last summer in order to evaluate whether he would get enough playing time this season.
But despite featuring in 15 out of City’s 17 games thus far, Milner is concerned that once manager Manuel Pellegrini has a fully fit squad, the former Aston Villa star will be demoted to the bench.
Yet Pellegrini believes Milner is an essential part of the side and is hoping a deal will be agreed shortly.
“I think they are continuing to have conversations and we hope he’ll arrive at it soon,” he said.
“I always say he’s a very important player for us. He always make a contribiution whether he starts or comes on.”
