Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has named Alberto Moreno and Simon Mignolet as liabilities following his former side’s League Cup final lost against Manchester City, Football Insider reports.
The two players have been regular selections for manager Jurgen Klopp this season, but both picked up poor performances in the penalty defeat.
City midfielder Fernandinho scored the opener for his side after his shot managed to creep under Mignolet while Moreno was caught out of possession leading up to the goal.
The Reds managed to net the equalizer courtesy of a strike from Philippe Coutinho as the game was forced into extra time and then eventually ending on a penalty win for the Manchester side.
Carragher believes the two players should be sold after stating that both the left-back and goalkeeping positions will need to change if Klopp wants to get his team back on track.
“The left-back has to come out of the team,” he told Sky Sports.
“This is not a one-off today in terms of the goal,” he said.
“Flanagan played left-back when they nearly won the league. He can’t be worse than him [Moreno].
“The goalkeeper has made some outstanding saves today, but just because you make some outstanding saves doesn’t mean you should be allowed to concede a goal like that. The mistake is shocking. You can’t score from there. And that is not just today.
“Going forward for Liverpool, those are two areas Jurgen Klopp has to change in the summer.”
The club will have the chance to exact revenge on their recent opponents as they will face City again in the Premier League tomorrow.
