Liverpool legend plays down Chelsea title chances

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has revealed that Chelsea will find it almost impossible to defend the Premier League title this season, according to reports from the Mirror.

The Blues have been struggling heavily since the start of the campaign, losing four of their previous eight matches in the league, sitting in 16th place.

Despite taking the lead in the recent clash against Southampton, they somehow managed to lose the game 3-1 courtesy of goals from Steven Davies, Sadio Mane, and Graziano Pelle.

When Carragher was asked about the title race, he admitted that manager Jose Mourinho’s side are no longer contenders and may even struggle to fight for a top four spot.

“Without a doubt. They’re now facing a battle to reach the top four,” he said.

He also added that he believes the players have lost his trust and are not performing like they did last season, with the entire club now in trouble.

“The way they are playing, for a champion, is shocking. I’ve never seen anything like this in the Premier League era.

“The biggest worry for Jose Mourinho is not the results. He has built his success on players running through a brick wall for him.

“Now they are slow and laboured, and look like they’re running through quicksand. They’re not playing for him.”

The next two matches for the Blues will see them play Aston Villa in the Premier League following the international break before facing Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League group stages in midweek.
