Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has confirmed that he will not be making a loan return during the MLS offseason, Express reports.
The 35-year-old LA Galaxy star was linked with a return to his boyhood club following an invitation from manager Jurgen Klopp to train with the squad.
However, the former Borussia Dortmund boss ruled out the possibility of Gerrard returning on a playing basis, but added that the doors are always open for the midfielder.
He has now come out to admit that he doesn’t need to prove himself in the English Premier League any more as he targets an extended rest in order to get ready for the new campaign.
“I’ve retired from the national team so I don’t have to go and prove myself in Europe,” he said.
“I need to get some rest because I’ve got a very long season ahead next year, so it’s very important I come back strong, rested and ready to go again.”
Gerrard spent 17 years at the club before eventually deciding to move on during the previous summer window, making over 500 appearances during his career in England.
The Reds are currently sitting 10th in the Premier League after only managing to register four wins from their previous 12 matches.
