Liverpool’s pursuit of Swansea midfielder Joe Allen has been upped, as the Reds have bid £15 million for the Welsh star according to The Daily Mail.
Brendan Rodgers left the Liberty Stadium this summer to become the Anfield club’s new boss, and has been linked with a move for a number of his former players.
With the Northern Irish manager eager to mimic the attacking and passing football that won him acclaim with the Swans, the acquisition of Allen is seen as integral in Rodgers’ plans.
Although Swansea are eager not to part with their star midfielder, a bid of £15 million is set to test their resolve, and potentially give Michael Laudrup funds to strengthen his squad.
Allen is currently preparing to compete for Team GB at the Olympic Games, and would be Rodgers’ second signing as Reds boss after an £11 million move for another former Swan, Fabio Borini, was completed.
