Liverpool have made an informal approach for Porto star Ruben Neves to make him Jurgen Klopp’s first new signing, according to reports from the Mirror.
The 18-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Estadio do Dragao for quite some time, with the teenager coveted by the likes of Chelsea and even Real Madrid.
And the Reds were monitoring him ever since January, but since the arrival of Klopp, the Merseyside club are making a real push to bring the deep-lying midfielder to Anfield.
Klopp has been known to nurture and develop young talent into world class players, showcased by the likes of Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski who are now at Bayern Munich.
The German previously insisted that he is happy with the current squad and won’t need to spend much in the transfer market, but he will be excited by the prospect of turning Neves into a top player.
Last season, Neves, who has a £29million buy-out clause, made 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal.
