Liverpool are set to make a summer move for Southampton star Jose Fonte to reinforce their back line, according to reports from the Metro.
The 31-year-old centre-back has been a constant performer for the Saints throughout the campaign, with manager Brendan Rodgers hoping to partner him with former teammate Dejan Lovren.
Lovren completed a move to Anfield the previous summer after a standout season, but has not been able to replicate his form for the Reds this year.
Fonte, who is the current captain for his side, has also been targeted by Manchester United in the past, but with the Red Devils looking elsewhere, Rodgers may attempt another raid on the club.
He has been a regular under manager Ronald Koeman, so far starting a total of 35 league out of a possible 36, with two more still to play.
In addition to Lovren, Liverpool have also brought in midfielder Adam Lallana as well as striker Rickie Lambert from the St Mary’s Stadium in the previous window.
