Liverpool are reportedly targeting a summer swoop for Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera as they look to begin life without Damien Comolli, reports Goal.com.
Herrera currently plays for Mexican side Pachuca and was influential in his country’s qualification for the London 2012 Olympics.
The 21-year-old winger has only made 27 appearances for Pachuca so far in his professional career but the club’s executive director Andres Fassi confirmed that the Anfield club had been monitoring the player.
“At the moment, we know that Liverpool is interested. But that’s all it is at this point, an interest,” Fassi told ESPN.
Herrera was nominated for the Mexico League’s ‘Golden Ball’ in 2011, an award that celebrates the league’s best talent and Fassi believes that Herrera has the potential to flourish in English football.
“[Herrera] can surely be one of the Premier League’s best players in two or three seasons. He’s that good.”
