Liverpool are considering a move for AC Milan right back Ignazio Abate, whose contract is set to expire at the end of this season, Mirror reports.
Brendan Rodgers will be looking to replace Glen Johnson with the defensive swoop as he is prepared to leave in June after deciding not to extend his deal with the club.
The 27-year-old Italian is still negotiating a new contract with the Serie A giants, but if no agreements are reached, Milan could risk losing him for free in the summer if they decide not to sell him at the beginning of next year.
Should a move for him fail, the Reds are also said to be monitoring the situation of Crystal Palace full back Joel Ward despite the suggestions that he is current happy with his role at the club.
If Rodgers sign Abate, he will be the second Milan player to make the switch to Anfield this year with Mario Balotelli joining them in the summer, but has been on a terrible run of form so far.
