Liverpool are hoping to beat Porto to the signing of Manchester City star Fernando, according to reports from The Sun.
Fernando has struggled to play on a regular basis for the Sky Blues, alerting former club Porto who are keen on bringing him back to the Estadio do Dragao.
The Reds have also entered the race for his signature, with Jurgen Klopp preparing a summer overhaul of his midfield.
However, the German will only make a maximum bid of £10million for the Brazilian, and if rejected, Klopp will turn elsewhere as he attempts to complete his transfers early in order to get a fulfilling pre-season.
The arrival of Pep Guardiola from Bayern Munich at City will see the future of many players in the balance, with Fernando expected to be one of the names available for transfer.
The 28-year-old has only made 17 Premier League appearances this season, many times coming off the bench as a substitute.
