Liverpool are prepared to beat Chelsea to the signing of Inter Milan star Mauro Icardi, according to reports from the Metro.
Icardi has been heavily linked with a move away from the Guiseppe Meazza since the summer, with the Blues and the Reds keen on the Argentina international.
The 22-year-old was Serie A’s top scorer tied with Luca Toni last season, but this term Icardi has yet to find that form.
However, the interest has not waned and according to Italian publication Tuttosport, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is now prepared to launch a £24.5million bid to bring the former Sampdoria attacker to Anfield.
Klopp has been frustrated at the high amount of injuries in his attack, with Daniel Sturridge and Christian Benteke yet to find full fitness while Danny Ings is out for the rest of the campaign following a knee surgery.
The German therefore decided to field Roberto Firmino up front against Manchester City this past weekend, which worked to great effect with the Reds winning 4-1 at the Etihad.
