Liverpool are edging closer to signing Roma star Miralem Pjanic after speculation that Brendan Rodgers has personally flown to Rome to scout the midfielder, Metro reports.
The 24-year-old was also linked with a move to Manchester United the previous summer, but interest in him looks to have cooled down ever since they reinforced their squad with a number of new players.
Rodgers was not present at the club’s latest training session as his assistant Colin Pascoe took charge, with the manager believed to be in Italy for a scouting trip.
The Reds are preparing for life after Steven Gerrard, as the current club captain will be joining LA Galaxy in the MLS at the end of the season.
If rumours of Rodgers’ scouting trip prove to be true, it could mean the Anfield outfits are likely to be in pole position to sign Pjanic in the upcoming summer window.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has been a regular for Roma this season, making a total of 27 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and setting up another five.
