Liverpool are considering a move to sign Schalke’s Kyriakos Papadopoulos, who is currently on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, in the summer, according to reports from the Metro.
The 23-year-old has been scouted by the Reds over the past few seasons, with the centre-back alerting Reds manager Brendan Rodgers after hinting he wants a move away from Germany.
Papadopoulos is believed to be keen on playing in a new league, opening up the possibility for the Anfield side to table a formal offer.
However, Leverkusen are also interested in retaining the Greece international’s services on a permanent basis, and is said to have already made a £4.4million bid to secure a deal.
Rodgers spent £20million during the previous summer to sign Dejan Lovren from Southampton, but he has been heavily criticised for his poor form, a factor which may lead to his manager reinforcing the back line once more.
Versatile summer signing Emre Can is often used as part of the three-man defence and with incoming defensive reinforcements, he may be able to return to his usual role in midfield.
