Liverpool are set to have their £16million bid for Real Madrid ace Asier Illarramendi accepted, according to reports from the Express.
Illarramendi has been recently linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu after a season in which he has struggled for a regular first-team role, usually being used a substitute by manager Carlo Ancelotti.
But despite the Italian boss being replaced by Rafa Benitez, it still looks likely that the Spain international will leave this summer.
The Reds made an initial offer of £11million a few weeks earlier, but have now upped their bid to £16million in hopes of convincing the La Liga giants to let go of the midfielder.
Kop chief Brendan Rodgers is keen on finding a midfielder to fill the void left by Steven Gerrard’s departure to LA Galaxy, and Illarramendi has been targeted as the perfect candidate.
The 25-year-old only started ten league games out of his 30 appearances, scoring no goals.
