Liverpool shot-stopper committed to the fight

Simon Mignolet says he’s ready to fight for his Liverpool future, reports the Daily Mail.

The Belgian is under new pressure for the starting role at Anfield, after Jurgen Klopp signed Loris Karius this summer for £5million from Mainz.

Mignolet has had an extended break after EURO 2016, and has only just started pre-season training with the Reds. This has given Karius an instant chance to prove himself, playing in all 4 of their preseason fixture, keeping a clean sheet in all of them.

The Belgian has made a number of high profile errors during his Liverpool career, which lead to Klopp being keen to sign a competitor as early as possible in this transfer window.

But Mignolet has welcomed the signing of Karius, and insists he will use it to inspire him:

“There is no point looking at somebody else. You have just got to make sure you do your job in the best possible way. The challenge is good. For every place you need that competition if you are going to improve as a player and as a team.” said Mignolet.

The Reds kick off the season away at Arsenal on August 14th, with many fans unsure which goalkeeper will start in the visit to the Emirates.
