Liverpool star defends Wilshere tackle

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has refused to take blame for Jack Wilshere’s injury after his tackle on the Arsenal midfielder in midweek, as reported by Sky Sports.

Agger and Wilshere went in for a 50-50 challenge during the first half of England’s international friendly with Denmark on Wednesday, but Wilshere came away the worse of the two.

The 22 year old appeared to kick the bottom of Agger’s boot and is now set to miss around six weeks of football with a fracture in his foot.

Wishere is in a race to return to full fitness and form in time for the World Cup in Brazil, although the Arsenal playmaker did carry on playing with his injury and seemed fine.

“It was 50-50. You have to go for those challenges,” Agger told the Daily Mirror.

“I was going for the ball and I think I got the ball, but the referee didn’t.”

Arsenal have even made plans to speak with the FA over compensation for Wilshere’s absence, something that is not common in the Premier League.
