Liverpool have been given a huge boost ahead of their clash against Manchester United this weekend, with defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva returning to full training on Wednesday, Daily Star reports.
Lucas’ last outing for the Reds’ was during their 0-0 Merseyside derby draw with Everton over a month ago, in which he limped off after just 15 minutes of action.
The Brazilian sustained a groin injury and has missed Liverpool’s last five Premier League matches, but is now fit to return when they host Man United at Anfield this Sunday.
However, it seems that Reds manager Brendan Rodgers could rest Lucas against United, as an international break after this weekend’s round of fixtures will give the 28-year-old adequate rest-time to regain full fitness.
Liverpool have turned around their early season woes and have won eight out of their last nine games, and a victory against the Red Devils in their next fixture will see the Anfield club leapfrog their top-four opponents into fourth.
