Liverpool star Christian Benteke has come out to reveal his regret over his decision to join the club, according to reports from the Mirror.
The 25-year-old completed a £32.5million transfer from Aston Villa last summer, but has struggled to hold down a regular role under current manager Jurgen Klopp this season.
He is now behind strikers Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi in the pecking order, with midfielder Roberto Firmino also preferred to play the forward position ahead of him.
Benteke voiced his concerns after he was constantly being benched by Klopp despite the fact that he feels he is fully fit and in the best shape of his career.
“What’s annoying me the most is that I would have never signed for Liverpool if I wasn’t the manager’s first choice,” he said.
“Since I went to England in 2012, I’ve never been on the bench for such a long period. It hurts, especially since I never was as fit as I am now.”
Despite his frustrations, the Belgium international also admitted that he is keen to continue fighting to prove his worth, but could reconsider his options in the summer.
He has only registered 12 Premier League starts this term, featuring another 13 times from the bench, so far managing to score seven goals.
