Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Mario Balotelli is fit for the Reds’ trip to Burnley on Boxing Day, Mirror reports.
However despite Balotelli’s return to fitness, Rodgers admits that Liverpool’s new pressing style of play does not suit the Italian, and could be dropped against the Hammers.
“We’re at our best when our game is aggressive, he said. We had to steady the ship [after Palace] and had to get results but that wasn’t long-term. It’s about rediscovering the tempo and intensity [of our game] and we’ve seen that.
“That real aggressive pressure gives us the platform to dominate the ball so it’s been a lot of work.
“[However] we’ve seen it isn’t really his game.
“Working with Mario we see someone who is better in and around the box so that level of intensity and pressing isn’t part of his game.”
Rodgers also commented that he will continue to use Brad Jones as Liverpool’s number-one goalkeeper ahead of first-choice star Simon Mignolet.
