Liverpool starlet’s injury could force transfer activity

Liverpool could be forced back into the transfer market after Joe Gomez picked up another big injury, reports the Metro.

The 19-year-old had a bright start to his Liverpool career last season, before suffering a cruciate knee injury whilst with the England Under-21 team. After signing from Charlton last summer, his season ended after just five league appearances.

But now the youngster is back in the treatment room, injuring his achillies during Liverpool’s preseason preparations, and will now miss the start of the new Premier League season. Gomez can play both at wing-back and in central defence.

Jurgen Klopp has recently sold Martin Skrtel, letting the centre-back join Fenerbahce. But with Mamadou Sakho also struggling with an achilles problem, the Reds are left low on centre-backs.

The injury means the German manager is currently considering diving back into the transfer market, to make sure he isn’t left with just two senior centre-backs fit for their league opener, away at Arsenal on August 14th.
