Liverpool are trying to rush the transfer of Luciano Vietto from Villareal in order to avoid a bidding war during the transfer window, according to reports from the Metro.
The 21-year-old is also being tracked by Spanish giants Real Madrid, given his sensational form in the current campaign.
Vietto has already bagged himself 18 goals in all competitions from a total of 34 matches, with Arsenal also believed to be considering his services.
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has already sent scouts to monitor his progress, and it is likely that the Merseyside club are planning to table an offer to secure his summer move to Anfield.
They have made the Argentine forward one of their top targets, with a bid of around £12.2million likely to be made in the near future.
Vietto’s arrival could signal the end of Rickie Lambert’s and even Mario Balotelli’s time at Anfield, with the pair finding it very difficult to hold down a regular place in the squad.
