Liverpool suffer injury blow ahead of Southampton clash

Liverpool will be without key attacker Roberto Firmino for today’s clash with Southampton as the Brazilian has picked up an injury, The Mirror report.

The Reds are coming off the back of a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday night, which was enough to see the Merseyside outfit progress through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Firmino played 85 minutes of the game in midweek but it now appears that his substitution close to the end of the encounter was due to injury.

The former Hoffenheim star will sit out Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Southampton as a result, which could well offer Divock Origi a chance to play.

Firmino has also pulled out of the Brazil squad for upcoming international fixtures, with Benfica striker Jonas being called into the contingent as a result.

The South American has had a promising first season in English football and looks like an important player for the Anfield side.
