Liverpool are believed to be targeting Aston Villa’s Fabian Delph to serve as a replacement to club legend Steven Gerrard, who is nearing the end of his career, Mirror reports.
The 25-year-old midfielder is yet to agree a new deal with his club and will have played out his current contract at this end of this season, giving Brendan Rodgers a chance to sign him for a very reasonable price.
Gerrard is likely to extend his stay at Anfield after his deal expires in the summer, but his manager may have to limit his playing time, prompting the club to begin a search for his replacement.
Delph was named Villa’s player of the season in the previous campaign while his performance has also led him to earn few caps for England.
It is believed that Paul Lambert may sell his star midfield man in January as both he and the club will not want to risk him leaving on a free transfer in the summer.
