Aston Villa are prepared to offload star midfielder Fabian Delph in January – on the condition that they receive at least £4m for the player, the Daily Mirror reports.
Liverpool have been long-term admirers of Delph, reports the Mirror, and eye him as a potential successor to Steven Gerrard, who is leaving the club to play in the MLS for LA Galaxy at the end of the season.
The 25 year-old is out of contract at Villa Park in the summer and has turned down an offer of an extension on his current deal, which paves the way for the Reds to make a move.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers could see Delph’s £4m valuation as an affordable option as he looks to add strength to his midfield.
Paul Lambert’s Aston Villa have struggled badly this season, scoring a total of just 11 Premier League goals in 22 games. The Midlands club face Bournemouth in the fourth round of the FA Cup this weekend.
